Salmo featured in Peter Hamilton’s book, The Restless Wind – my favourite Vertue book -, when he sailed single handed from England to Quebec in 1956, surviving a hurricane en route, and somehow managing to sail up the St Lawrence River, against the flow, without an engine, where he then laid her up for the winter. Then, joined by his wife, they sailed together down the East Coast of America, navigating through ice flows off the Canadian coast, down to Central America, and through the Panama Canal, then on to Tahiti, before returning to California.
Hamilton had previously sailed V44 Speedwell of Hong Kong back from Hong Kong to the UK in 1953.
